A Royal Adventure for Year 1!

Published: 4th July 2025

Year 1 had a fantastic adventure when they visited Sandringham on Friday! The excitement started the moment we climbed aboard the coach, ready for a day fit for royalty.

When we arrived, our first stop was the King’s enormous back garden. The children were amazed at how big it was! We even discovered an ancient oak tree that’s over 800 years old.  Everyone had a chance to touch this living piece of history.

Next, we headed to a fun workshop to learn all about monarchs. Each pair studied a Top Trumps card with fascinating facts about different kings and queens. The highlight was when Prince Hayden was crowned King Hayden in our own coronation role-play! Harper did a brilliant job as the Archbishop of Canterbury — the children absolutely loved it.

Lunch was extra special too! We got to have a picnic right in the King’s Garden! Then came the part everyone was waiting for: exploring the King’s house itself. We were guided through each beautiful room and the children impressed everyone with their thoughtful and curious questions. Many guides praised Year 1 for their excellent manners and commentated on how beautifully behaved they were. What a proud moment for Thurlby!
