‘All young people should have the opportunity to live healthy and active lives. A positive experience of sport and physical activity at a young age can build a lifetime habit of participation, and is central to meeting the government’s ambitions for a world-class education system.’
PE and Sport Premium Guidance 2020/2021
The PE and Sport Premium is designed to help primary schools improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils. The amount of funding allocated is based upon the number of children in year groups 1 to 6. Schools with over 17 eligible pupils receive an allocation of £16,000 and an additional payment of £10 per pupil for 2021/22. For our school, this totalled £17,710.
Schools are free to choose the best way of using the money. At Thurlby, a large percentage of the funding has been used to hire specialist qualified sports coaches to work with teachers in the delivery of their lessons. This enables our class teachers to improve their own skills when teaching PE and sports to our pupils.
Our school PE Leader strives to provide lasting sporting opportunities for our children, ensuring that they are regularly participating in physical activity but also accessing new sports that may help to develop links with local clubs. Competitions and sports festivals are regularly attended, especially by our KS2 pupils, and children are continually developing their skills and experiences.
In order to promote PE and sports in our school, we have a team of School Sports Ambassadors who help to develop confidence in the abilities of our pupils but who also demonstrate the values that we encourage in all.
The School Games Values of honesty, determination, teamwork, passion for sports and self-belief are built into our curriculum to ensure our pupils develop skills but also to develop a sense of fair play and respect for everyone.
At Thurlby, we are very proud of the sporting provision that will help our pupils to develop a passion for sports that will hopefully last a lifetime!
