Mathematics Intent Statement
At Thurlby Community Primary Academy, we strive towards shaping assured, happy and resilient mathematicians. We use a mastery curriculum with the ‘concrete, pictorial and abstract’ approach embedded through the school, to support all learners, which maximises the development of every child’s ability and academic achievement. The children should confidently know their times tables and other known number facts and use this knowledge to become keen problem solvers, whose skills not only liberate them in maths but also support them across the curriculum. We aim for the children to understand the importance of the subject and have a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards it - which will stay with them for life.
