At Thurlby Community Primary Academy, our curriculum is driven by the need to prepare our children for lifelong learning in our ever-changing world. We offer a rich and vibrant curriculum which is ambitious for all pupils; regardless of their starting points.
Through our curriculum, we develop the essential knowledge and skills which are the building blocks for later life. It builds on prior knowledge, is relevant and meaningful to our children and is carefully planned with cohesion and progression throughout the school.
Our approach encompasses the requirements of the National Curriculum with subjects being taught both discretely and cross curricular as part of carefully planned topics. We provide many opportunities for pupils to experience learning first-hand through educational visits, Forest School, visitors to our academy and experience days within school. These opportunities help to ensure our children are immersed in the areas they are learning about.
We use our pupil premium and sports premium grants to ensure that our curriculum provides enrichment, which, for some pupils, would not be accessible without that. We are proud of our sporting offer which includes sports coaches, a wide range of teams and competing in sporting tournaments.
Our curriculum develops interpersonal skills, builds resilience and enables our children to become creative, critical thinkers with a thirst for knowledge and a passion for learning. We aim to prepare our children for life in modern Britain; fostering in them attitudes and qualities which enable them to become confident, caring, respectful and responsible citizens.
At Thurlby, 'every child counts and every moment matters'.
