Forest School

We are very lucky to have Forest School sessions each week at school. Each session will be run by Miss Titman who has a Level 3 Forest School qualification and an up-to-date first aid certificate.

Forest School encourages children to explore and learn in the richest classroom we have – the outdoors. The ethos of Forest School is based on a fundamental respect for children and young people and their capacity to instigate, test and maintain curiosity in the world around them.

Forest School activities improve gross and fine motor skills, encourage independence and assess awareness of risk taking, as well as improving a child’s knowledge of the natural environment.

Each class has one term of Forest School every year and activities are closely linked to the curriculum in consultation with the classteacher.

The sessions are held within the school grounds and children will go out in all weathers. They should come to school in their Forest School clothing. Appropriate attire includes:

  • Waterproof coat
  • T-shirt
  • Jumper
  • Jogging bottoms/old jeans/waterproof trousers
  • Wellington boots (in a separate named carrier bag)
  • Sun hat and suncream applied (in summer months)
