In some of our learning this week, we have been making large scale castles and beanstalks to retell the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. We looked at which 3D shapes made the best castles to protect the giant’s gold. We investigated which shapes balanced the best, which shapes fitted together the best and why and we also looked at why some of the shapes needed to be rotated a certain way to balance better. The cylinders, cones and pyramids had to stand on their flat faces. The spherical shapes were not included as they just rolled.
