As part of their science studies this term, Year 6 have been studying light and shadows. Earlier lessons covered how light travels, reflection, mirrors and optical instruments, especially Newton’s ‘Reflective Telescope’. Last week, their studies led to a practical activity to construct a periscope. This week, the children studied the composition of ‘white light’. This led into a fascinating practical investigation using prisms to separate white light into the 7 constituent colours before writing an explanation as to how and why this occurred.
